transportation
The Southern California and Orange County areas are serviced by a variety of  public transportation, including buses, commuter trains, and light-rail. In comparison to other countries, America's public transportation systems can feel limited. The Fullerton Transportation Center is located within walking distance from the college which can greatly increase students' mobility.

Buses
Bus transportation in Orange County is provided by the Orange Country Transit Authority. Whether you want to go to the beach or the Brea Mall, a bus can get you there. Use the online trip planner to find the right bus!

There are several fare options for riding the bus. Fullerton College students can buy a discounted bus pass at the beginning of each semester. Ask the ISC for more details.

Trains

Metrolink commuter trains connect Ventura, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, and Orange counties with six train lines and an extensive weekday schedule. The Orange County Line, that stops in Fullerton, extends from Oceanside to Los Angeles.

Amtrak provides nationwide service and has several stations and destinations in California. From Fullerton, the Pacific Surfliner runs south to San Diego and north, through Los Angeles, to San Luis Obispo.

Once in Los Angeles, students can reach several locations by taking LA Metro rail or buses. From Union Station in Los Angeles, the Metro Red Line subway travels to mid-LA and Hollywood while the Metro Gold Line subway travels to Pasadena. Students can also reach Los Angeles International Airport via the Metro Green Line. It is easy to plan a trip using the Metro Trip Planner.

Cars & Driver Licenses
F1 visa students are eligible for a California driver license. Students need to present necessary immigration documentation and take a written and driving test. If you own your own car, you must have car insurance and pay a registration fee for your car. For more information, see these CA Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) links:

International Travel
When traveling outside the U.S., you must bring your I-20 to the ISC for a travel authorization signature.  To legally re-enter the U.S., you must have an I-20 with a travel authorization signature, a valid F1 visa, and a passport with a minimum of 6 months validity.

FYI: As of December 2003, male citizens or nationals from certain countries must comply with special registration.  If you think this may include you, please review this process here.

After you return to the U.S., bring your I-20 and new I-94 to the International Student Center so we can make copies.
